every time whatever country ram is made in has bad weather.

however racist that may sound... that was kind of the deal with hard drives for a very long time, and i'd be surprised if it wasnt the same for ram sticks.

Wait seriously? WEATHER effects it? Is it because of shipping procedures and stuff?

well, a specific case i refer to with the hard drives was when i got my laptop, it was made *just* before a major flood in some place in asia where appareantly a lot of hard drives were made.

so... just after the flood my dad needs a laptop, and his 500GB 5400RPM hard drive ended up being like twice the price of my 1TB 7200RPM hard drive...

Something similar happened 2-2.5 years ago at which point RAM spiked up to the point where 8gb would cost you $80~.

But @OnionRings I think you just got a good deal (/sale price), I don't recall DDR3 going below $30~ for 8gb (about where it is right now).

Well dam I'm lucky then sweet, I'll just have to pay the 35$ to get a second stick though I guess, cheaper then buying a whole new kit.

That's about it, good weather for a while and ram prices drop. You get a month of bad weather and they skyrocket again.

This was the Hynix fire in Germany.  It was actually about a year and a half ago.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Then there was something before that. When I built my computer in June 2014 8gb of RAM was $85.

Edit: The fire occured October 2013: http://www.channelweb.co.uk/crn-uk/news/2298475/capacity-slide-confirmed-on-back-of-hynix-memory-fire

God bless our modern, non-agrarian economy :P

I remember buying similar DDR3 RAM, always in 2 sticks. 2012-13: 8GB, €40. Frist half 2015: 16GB, €125. Now: 16GB, €70-80 and falling (hello DDR4).

And yes, of course, you guessed correctly the timing of my last new purchase...

I was happy when I got an 8 gig kit for $45, back when prices stopped bouncing between $80-100. :P
