Hi All,

Was thinking about purchasing an 8U wheeled rack enclosure for LAN. Reason being that racks are generally space efficient and i could put some drawers in it for peripherals as well as a PDU and a 4U case for my PC

This was the enclosure i was looking at:

https://www.studiospares.com/Accessories/Cases-Rack/Studiospares-Trojan-MKII-6U-2U-ABS-Wheeled-Rack-Case_458670.htm?CAWELAID=120173110000083583&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=21236301156&CATCI=pla-158519232996&catargetid=120173110000154566&cadevice=c&gclid=Cj0KEQjw57W9BRDM9_a-2vWJ68EBEiQAwPNFK8c_v-a1W8Yn8FE0VQs5mCG8g-Kb7JDB5D6RkkIf2VwaAjfs8P8HAQ

Is there anything i should look out for when i purchase racks / Accessories. Would these enclosures (which are generally used for audio components (I believe?)) work for cases like this?:

https://www.xcase.co.uk/collections/rackmount-cases-1/products/4u-compact-chassis-x-n406s-400mm?variant=18460909125

I take it i would need rack mounting rails? If I do, what size do I need? 18", 20", 26"?

Are these components compatible?

Sorry about all the questions :/

Thanks in advance,

-Sam

You will be fine. The case has a depth of 15 inches while the cabinet has a depth of 24 inches. You probably don't need rails, but if the thing is getting bumped a lot, you might want to get some. I'd say get the 20" rails, though I don't really know what the sizes are for.

Bought a rosewill 4U rack case, which has dog ears, however it would never fit with rails on a standard 19" wide rack. I didn't see any complaints nor notes, and actually found rails but after sticking this in my rack I quickly learned it would never work. So I just bought a shelf on rails that pull out for it. It's heavy and I didn't want fight it if I had to pull it out.

If you get a shelf for misc network equipment (like a modem or wireless router) to sit on, maybe get a shelf with pull-out rails. Or a static shelf and just put it on the top most spot and then access it from above which is what I did.
