WiFi speed is half than wired

dimis2000k

After upgrading my internet speed plan I noticed that when I am connected to my router via a wired I get my full speed but when I am connected to it I get half of it.  After a long Google searching session i found that this is a common issue with netgear routers. I couldn't find any solution online....

What speeds are we thinking? Wifi is normally much slower, for example in my house i get about 120 down on wifi and 700 down on wired.

That seems normal. Wifi isn't that fast, esp with a slower wifi router

by any chance is it capping out at 50mbps?

Cause your router is wireless G, and doesn't have 20 and 40mhz coexistance.

Well, in 2016 most of these "mobile" devices either have an rj45 port, dont really have a good wireless card anyways, or are stupidly expensive.

If you're under that last banner, $300 access points are amazing, meanwhile i just do my thing with cat5e, and $20 tp-link switches.

basically you won't get any improvements.

Did you get the current one from your isp? See if you can get them to send you their current gen router (for the record, isp equipment is always really really bad)

check ebay or your local listing for something like a NETGEAR WNDR4500, stick DD-WRT on it and you're good.

Has the same range as my WRT1900AC

Yep that yours problem, Your router is on the older side and is wireless G Which only supports theoretically up to 54 mbps. Go Buy a Netgear AC router or at least Wireless N Router and it should fix your problems.

can an N router handle 50 down in 2.4?

Yes Wireless N I think can handle up to 450 mbps depending on the router.
