Quality PSU For First System?

ASAP_Gooby

Does anyone know a quality power supply for my first build: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/CgJy4C

I first looked into the Cooler Master MasterWatt Maker 1200 until they had no stock, then I looked into Corsair AX1200i expecting high quality and excellent reviews; but I'm still on the fence. Does anyone have any suggestions?

By the way I'm wondering if I should get a 60mm EK-CoolStream XE 480 or the 40mm EK-CoolStream PE 480 in a push pull configuration and if a 60mm will get in the way of the PSU. I know this isn't the water cooling thread, I will be posting there too, but if anyone happens to know your answers will be appreciated.

How many 1080s are you planning to SLI? Cuz 1200W is enough for 6.

|PSU Tier List /80 Plus Efficiency| PSU stuff if you need it.

I'd go with an EVGA G2 unit, they get great reviews.

Thanks

A smaller RMi unit is more than enough. 1,200 watts is well over twice what your PC would consume, even overclocked and at full blast.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

EVGA 850W P2, more than enough for your needs even if you decide to SLI... link above is your parts list but added the EVGA 850W P2.

Please quote my post, or put @paddy-stone if you want me to respond to you.

Corsair - AX, AXi, HXi, RMi, RMx, SF

EVGA - G2, P2, PS, T2

1200w is overkill,750-850w should be the sweet spot if you plan to SLI in the future or upgrade,650w should do it for just one card even for a full OC

If you have the money, the Corsair AX860i gets my vote, its just a gentle amazing beast in a box

From my experience, thicker radiators are a waste unless your doing some serious OCing and want get every last degree you can, I have 2x 27.5mm thick rads that cool my over clocked system good with my fans running at constant 600 rpm, and my GPU is a lot less efficient then a GTX 1080.  So I'd say do with the 40mm ones if your dead set on those 2 ek rads.

I'll go with this unit, thank you! And I take it that a 2% efficiency difference isn't worth the 50 dollars huh

Well for me I work it out like this:-

850W = more than enough juice for most systems even when also 2 way SLI build.

I chose the platinum (p2) efficiency as the 850W G2 (gold) was only £20 cheaper at the cheapest shop, and at most places the price difference was even closer like £5-10, and at some it was MORE for the gold :/

10 year warranty makes this approx (where I live and my favourite buyer) £122 /10 years = just over £10 a year for a great power supply that even in years to come and it loses efficiency should still be powerful enough to drive almost any setup, and if something happens that isn't the direct actions of the user then you can most likely claim under warranty. I have one of these myself now and have put them in a few systems for others in the past. and the quality of these PSUs are great... not even a whisper out of it when running at full load, which is one of my priorities as my PC is right where I sit.

Anyway, hope you enjoy it, whether you went for the cheaper but still great gold model or platinum... both are more than enough :)
