X99 within a Node 202... What could possibly go wrong??

***read the title***

So, i wanna build myself a juicy htpc sized beast pc... planing on using a 6850k in a node 202... gpu is gtx 1080, ssd 1tb etc... i was wondering if you could tell me a good fan for this cpu and this case in particular. For all i care, you can make me a pc on www.pcpartpicker.com if ya have any ideas. Aimimg for a small pc gr8 4 travelling and gr8 for gaming m8. Price? Around 2500 USD. I have a mousd kb and a monitot already. Tnx in advance

why get the 6850k ? It offers no performance benefit over the 6800k , and costs 200$ more . 28 pcie lanes is plenty for a gtx 1080 , and you still have plenty of expansion left

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

Mostly because i want to future proof my build in case i move it from one case to another... one mobo to another etc. Any ideas m6?

I won't recommend it. The 6850K has six cores. It generates a lot more heat than the 4-core counterparts. Even without any overclocking, a Noctua NH-D9L(110mm tall) is the minimum requirement for this CPU.

Either you pick a less powerful CPU, or another PC case.

Do you have any other cases to recommend? Remember pls... size matters ;)

not worth it . 28 pcie lanes is enough to handle 2 way sli + 3 pcie SSD's . You have plenty of room . It was an issue now that nidia killed 4 way sli , but nvidia killed it , so the 6850 has no real reason to exist .

I'm looking for a small and nice looking itx case also.

If you want a console looking, lay-down style case. Then, no.

A small tower style. I can think of Define Nano S. Or the coming Lian LI PC-Q37.

I'm assuming you're looking at those asrock itx x99 motherboards like the x99E-ITX/ac . What you could do is mount an h55 aio cooler to it . Linus did it in the ultimate compact pc . The node 202 does have spots for 120mm fans ...

You forget CrossFire still support more than 2 cards.

Just kidding. :)

true , but then you could run them in 4x mode . And as a 2 way crossifre owner , i don't know anyone would manage the heat of a 4 way card setup ...

I don't recommend more than 2 cards in general. Those need more than two cards are real minority.

That's why I said "Just kidding". :)

You cannot fit a Noctua NH L9i to a 2011-V3 socket. Nor will it able to handle the heat of a six-core chip.

Second, have you check what special socket this Asrock mobo has?

I'm not sure how anybody would squeeze four graphics cards into a Node 202, myself :)

I guess if you used two 2-way PCI-E daughterboards with riser-cables then you could maybe fit four of those MXM GTX 980s in there? Unlikely, but that's the only way I can think of it possibly working.

or you could try one of those dodgy pcie splitters and use two dual cards , like two 295x2's or pro duo's :D
