Need antivirus for new PC!

I just built my first PC last night, nothing special but still feels good. One thing I did not consider was antivirus software, any suggestions? Any free ones?

Thank you!

Malwarebytes, Avast, Kaspersky are a few free and paid ones.

Malwarebytes, and just Windows Defender (Enabled by default on Windows 10) should be fine.

I edit my posts a lot.

antivirus and anti malware are different things. i would recommend getting free malwarebytes and scanning your pc every couple of weeks(whenever you have time really). then some antivirus that has active protection and is always on(i personally use f-secure)

Windows already includes Windows Defender and honestly it's just great. You will probably not need any other antivirus other than you brain and common sense.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

except if you use an antivirus program. then it's not. and tbh at this point windows defender isn't the greatest, not exactly even close to that(but they are improving it now so in future...). but it probably is fine if the user isn't a complete dumbass, like a child or... my mom

Malwarebytes

Bitdefender Free edition - No ads and light to use.

Bitdefender free is awful if you actually want to use a file that's falsely flagged as a virus. The last time I used it, it had no settings and no way for me to exclude a file that even malwarebytes determined was NOT a virus. Dumped it after 2 days.
