What processor is best for video editing?

I am new to video editing and graphic design and video editing.  I am getting by for now but as I get more into video production I am planning on getting a new computer with more power.  I get lost in the comparison between AMD and Intel sometimes and am looking for some advice on which will run Adobe suites better.  Do you have any tips, advise, or statistics that could help me out?

The Adobe suites can hardly take advantage of more than four real cores (I think 6 is the max that you should ever buy for content production on Adobe software) and an i7 6700k would do you nicely as the multicore and single threaded performance of any Intel i7 is going to be drastically better than any AM3 CPU. You never mentioned a budget however. What are you willing to spend.

|PSU Tier List /80 Plus Efficiency| PSU stuff if you need it.

If you're willing to spend for the best, an i7-6700K or i7-5820K would be at the top of your list. Maybe an i7-6800K, but I'm not sure what those cost relative to 5820's and not sure they're worth the price increase.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

This topic might get a lot of bad attention, better change the name of the topic - it's against the community guidelines to post topics that conceptualize the following:

  • Intel vs AMD
  • NVIDIA vs AMD
  • Windows vs Mac

If you genuinely have a question based on such topics, clearly frame a suitable name of your topic and your actual question. I did the same a few months ago, and the thread was locked within minutes!

Coming back to your question, all Adobe suites rely heavily on the CPU, and are also heavily multi-threaded workloads. You would be fine with Intel, specifically the Core i7 series (i7-6700, i7-6700K). If you have bit more money to spend, you can even get the Core i7 6/8 core workstation CPUs, like the i7-6800K, i7-6850K, i7-6900K, or even the 10-core behemoth i7-6950X!

Nothing to see here ;)

A nice GPU with CUDA will help most of them tremendously. 750 Ti is usually the best bang for the buck when it comes to Adobe but anything later with more VRAM will do better.

I am currently a student and I have managed to get a few small clients for a small marketing business that I am starting.  Right now I don't have a lot of money so I would deffinetly like to stay under $2000 for a whole system. I was thinking about purching the Mac Mini with a i7 processor 16GB of RAM and 256GB PCIe-based Flash Storage.  I think that whole bundle is somewhere around $1500

You need an OS, case, and peripherals. Feel free to upgrade the GPU to a 960 4GB or 1060 as CUDA and more VRAM helps Adobe.

Let me know what you think and if you need anything else.
