Thanks, I'll bookmark that, if I can't find a free option I will use that. I don't need much as far as performance goes, a potato is enough :P

Have you ever bought a vps from them?

a friend of mine has one, and they're not very pleasing, but they're free :P

(they tend to lag out every so often, but recover after 10 mins or so max)

If you just need a RESTful Web Server that you want to hit, I like Google App Engine.  Amazon Web Services is also free for 12 months if you're a prime member.  There's also Firebase (another google product) that I haven't used, but I've seen others use them.  

 

Couldn't you also develop locally on an emulator to see if it works, then worry about the web server later?  That way, you can hit a locally ran server hosted via Jetty or Tomcat

While in development yes I can run a local server, but I don't want to pay a server for an app that people don't want to use (and let's be honest... unless you are a known developer your app will probably never be downloaded)

I was looking for a free host for a little website I'm building. It's just html and css so I don't really need anything powerful. Right now I ended up hosting the pages on github and having a domain redirect to them. Not the best way of doing things, but it works and it's free. Or I could just host them on my desktop, but I'd have to keep it on 24/7, which I don't really want to do.

 

Think I'm going to end up using 000webhost.

WAMP or LAMP would work. You need to port forward to access it from the outside.

If you don't need much bandwidth at all, and you have decent internet, you might consider just dual booting your personal computer with something like ubuntu server for the tests. You could even do one better and just run your webserver inside of a virtual machine on your primary machine and either setup port forwarding or use a bridged adapter. Then if things take off, you could justify something like AWS or whatever else you would choose in that scenario.
