Should I get a sound card for my system?

Hi all

 

Should I actually get a sound card for my computer? 

 

This question has been bugging me because my father is suggesting I should add one into my system to "enhance" my experience when I am after more of a professional setup (studio monitors, studio-grade mic, audio interface, high-quality headphones, and SupremeFX Hi-Fi). Any suggestions and/or advice is welcome

Sound cards aren't worth it. If you really want good quality audio, buying a reasonably cheap dac should do great, like the Modi 2 from schiit. http://schiit.com/products/modi-2

Well looking at your motherboard, the audio quality of its outputs are excellent, however if you have hard to drive headphones (how do I draw an ohm character?)  then a sound card may be a good choice.

That's what I was thinking too. The Rampage V Edition 10 has good 7.1 onboard audio (though it's not the best). I actually use the SupremeFX Hi-Fi add-on for the motherboard. I just need to reacquire it from Amazon.com, no other seller as the last one was so bad I refunded it, and recently I filed a complaint against the seller called OneDealOutlet Online (BTE Computers) for poor customer service.

The SupremeFX Hi-Fi can drive headphones up to 600 ohms

Yep. And if I ever wanted both surround sound and a professional setup, I would be like "Fuck it I'm gonna go all the way and do 11.2 surround with powered studio monitors and two studio subs with these":

If I land on a working on, then it's not dangerous. Also that particular version requires an amp (for passive speakers) or powered speakers (in this case, JBL Professional studio monitors/subwoofer combo)

Yep. You might add "well how is JurunceNK going to get Dolby Atmos in games?" Easy, just hook up the HDMI on my GPU to the receiver and set the Nvidia High Definition Audio as the default audio source. As long as x game supports Dolby Atmos, then it will have 11.2 surround sound (so far, Star Wars Battlefront is the only game I know of so far that has Dolby Atmos)

That would be great, I heard of some vinyl that supports 11.2 once (well 11.1 but 1 more sub isn't a huge change), some crazy whichcraft to accomplish that

ohm does not really matter, you can have 600 Ohm headphones that are harder to drive than 32 Ohm headphones.
