CPU cooler install

any one have tips on how they go about removing their mobos?

i know where everything goes and stuff i just dont want to wreck anything with static electricity or anything dumb like that.

im going to attempt to install a hyper 212 x cooler because the stock one sounds like a jet taking off when im trying to game.

any tips from prior experience that i need to watch out for or do would be greatly appreciated

cheers

Static isn't a threat. I've build ALL of my PC's on carpet, no static discharge things needed. Just don't shuffle your feet in wool socks on some carpet, and I promise it's fine. Anyways, just take your GPU out, unplug everything from the board, and unscrew it. Use the motherboard's box, or just some cardboard to set the board itself onto. Undo the stock cooler (both Intel and AMD's stock coolers go on and off easily), and just use the instructions to apply the 212x. Don't forget to take the old thermal paste off, and when you're screwing it down, do so in a "cross" pattern so you don't stress certain parts of the board too hard.

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

It's not that hard to do.. You just need to find all the screws that hold your motherboard in place (on the motherboard standoffs in your case). It would also be a good idea to make sure that nothing else prevents you from the removal such as still plugged in SATA cables, power cables, fan cables, front panel connectors or other screws that hold the graphics card in place for example.

I suggest using >90% isopropylalcohol. Put some on a paper towel and gently rub the CPU clean.

You might not need to take out the mobo, depending on your case. I recently installed a new cpu cooler and was able to do so by just taking off the side panels.

You're probably better off with a new platform at this point.

If you list your specs, where your performance is lacking, and clarify what kind of dollars are you're using, we may be able to give some good suggestions.

What kind of dollars are you using and what's the reason behind upgrading? Is your current performance lacking?

Sorry thanks for the tips.

NZD. performance at the moment for the things i am doing isn't too bad. i was looking to start playing some better games on higher fps.

playing arma 3 on what i've got at the moment is a bit of struggle. it runs it, but only just at 30 fps on low everything basically. Multiplayer's out of the question.

A cpu upgrade won't help much to solve the problem of slow cpu threads. I'd suggest saving up for a modern i5 of some sort.
