G4400 and GTX 950 768p Bottleneck!?!

G4400 and GTX 950 at lower resolution like 768p, will it bottleneck current games like witcher 3, gta-v, cs go and other high end games? Mid settings will be enough for me. I do not need high or ultra type settings. I don't have a big monitor though. Just want to make sure that will work fine for me. Thanks

Yes? Because it's a dual-core and GTA V will be shit on it and stutter and because lower res puts more load on the CPU

Are you buying a GTX950 now??? Don't buy a last gen card, go for a RX 480

I don't think it's a bottleneck. The CPU might just be insufficient overall but even if it wasn't the 950 can't really do anything past medium settings at 1080p and even then it will struggle on 40s and 50s for FPS on heavy parts like Novigrad on Witcher 3

So What should I do? I don't have enough money to buy A high end CPU and GPU. I thought G4400 will be good for me cause my screen resolution is 1366x768. And I search online where people only talk about 1080p or 4k which need more horse power. Any suggestion?

i3 6100 or FX 6300

2-cores without HT are NOT enough

Actually at 768p both should be fine.

No need for an APU. Athlon 860K or 880K (880K has an awesome cooler with it)

Resolution doesn't work like that for cpus. lower resolutions produce more draw calls from the gpu causing more work for the cpu. It's the number of draw calls that effects cpu performance, not the number of pixels.

So many people think they can cheap out on a cpu because they plan to play at lower resolutions. Can't say I blame them, it is counter intuitive. You might as well crank the details until the fps starts to drop (if it does), then back it off a bit, no point in under-utilising your gpu.

You may want to start thinking about a cpu upgrade and start saving. Any i5 would be ideal, but an i3 would be a decent leap in performance.

At that resolution, expect to have at least a slight bottleneck with that card unless you have a faster i5.

Sorry you had to learn this after building the system.

yes. bottlenecking. i3 6100 minimum for that GPU. Or FX 6350 (for the Wraith Cooler)

i don't think so

because the g4400 is a pretty good cpu and the gtx 950 a mid range card so i think they'll fit perfectly together

but i'm not sure and know that always there a bottleneck somewhere in the PC even if your cpu is a 6700k and your gpu is 1080

there is always a small bettleneck lol

hope this will help you out somehow

peace :)

The issue withthe Pentium is NOT the power - it's the lack of threads. The reason Athlons are more often recommended even though they have slightly less overall power is because of the 4 threads - that is VITAL nowadays.

Dual core, dual threaded cpus won't play well with gta, and quite a few other games. The 950 is being bottlenecked by the pentium. Get an i3 6100/Fx 6300 and you should be good.

Nothing.

Your CPU isn't rendering pixels anyway, so increasing or decreasing the screen resolution doesn't usually make a difference to the CPU. In fact, CPU benchmarks are sometimes run at low resolution deliberately to relax the load on the GPU and make CPU performance easier to see.

You can play GTA V with a G4400 if that's what your budget requires, but I think you're already aware you're not going to get the same experience as someone with an i5 or i7. You should search on Youtube for some GTA V gameplay using a G4400 and see if it's acceptable to you. And as said above, there are some AMD options that may run the game a bit better and fit in your budget.

i think you should buy a decent second hand i5/mobo/ram combo like a 2500K, then you can run whatever you like :P also for your res that you play at a gtx580 maybe even lower would be fine.

CPU load never changes at different resolutions, settings in graphics menu's will have an effect. Resolution just determines how hard the GPU will have to work.

in your witcher 3 and gta v yes it will be a struggle to your g4400 but on CS GO you can get a Good Game Play saying so CS GO is a Low Title Games but still try to purchase a i5 if you can but if not go for an i3 a lot of people insisting on it. and your GPU i think you should rethink it if you have not yet purchase it. when i purchase my GTX 950 i only intended to play MoBa Games and FPS so try to invest in much better GPU.

what is your budget and what parts you need to buy?

GPU, CPU ram and motherboard?

do you have the rest or you need a full build?

where are you located?

any website you prefer to buy from?

OK...so what's the deal here?

i see on July 11th you posted for help on a new build with a 500$ budget, guys posted builds with core i5 for 500$...now you come with APU and stuff...

500$ USD was too much?

just ask for a 400$ build then...or a 350$USD build if that's your real budget...i'll help...just be honest...and be specific about what you need/want

do you need keyboard, mouse...headphones maybe? do you have a copy of windows or you need to buy one?

help me and i'll help you.

G4400 is pretty bad at modern games...and so are anything you can drop on an FM2+ socket...but maybe that"s all you can afford...i don't know...the athlon 860K would be a good start i think...maybe you can afford a skylake build with an i3-6100...who knows?

The Pentium G4400 is nowhere near as good a CPU as the Pentium G3258 and that chip was fucking horrible for gaming when I ran mine at 4.4 GHz. Massive bottlenecking and cpu performance is completely independent of resolution. A pure dual core cannot keep a steady framerate in modern games unless you limit to 30 fps, in which case you might as well just get a PS4 instead. Even then, I couldn't get a consistent 30 fps disabling cores on GTA V to simulate a 3.8 GHz Haswell Pentium from my Xeon E3-1231v3. Don't buy a Pentium, they're awful for gaming. Pentiums are for your grandmother to watch youtubes of kittens and to order Viagra from Canadian pharmacies.
