Best air cooling for CPU

LinusTechDips

As in the title. What is the best CPU air cooling under 160mm (or 6.3'') height? Bonus points if its black. :)

I was looking for the dark rock pro 3, but it might not fit in my phanteks case :( (160mm max, dark rock pro 3 is 163mm)

Obvious answer would be the Hyper 212 evo, not only is it a good cooler, it's 159 mm! Though it isn't black.

Less obvious answer might be the NH-D15 which is quieter and performs better.

Yes. But sadly the NH-D15 is 165mm. :/

Was originally looking at it or dark rock pro 3 to choose from, but they're just too big.

Found myself a couple of coolers that would fit the case:

Dark Rock 3

Zalman CNPS12X

LC-Power LC-CC-120-X3

Thermaltake Frio Extreme Silent

SilverStone Heligon

Is any of those even close to the performance of aboves? Or in the end im better off changing my case? (althrough that phanteks p400s looks good :( )

The heatsink itself is 160mm tall and the fans can be lowered.

Dark Rock Pro 3 seems like good CPU cooler.

It' rated for 250W TDP, so it will keep your temps in check.

Ah, i fucked up. It was meant to be Dark Rock 3 (without the PRO), cause PRO is 3mm too high :(

You sure they can be safely lowered to 160mm?

The middle fan can. Whether the front can will depend on your ram but you can always move it to the back as pull or repurpose it as a case fan while maintaining most of the cooler's performance.

Yea. Memory is exact my concern since i got a g.skill ripjaws V kit, which is preety high and might not fit under.

If i'll have to remove fans wouldn't that lower the performance of noctua to the level of other single fan coolers?

Cryorig H7 meets all your ctieria. Looks good, black finish on the top of the heatsink, pretty good performance, usually quite cheap (~ $40 USD). it DOES have a white fan though, but you could always paint it or replace it if you really don't like it.

No, the heatsink is what accounts for most of the performance. Removing the front fan would only lower performance by 1-2 degrees.

Okay thanks for the info. :)
Are there any black fans for the replacement on that cooler? Since i have a whole black/white theme rolling arround.

Correct. If your memory blocks the front fan of the NH-D15, consider getting the single-fan NH-D15S instead.

The fans that come with the NH-D15 are excellent and there isn't much point to getting the cooler if you're just going to replace the fans. If you need a black/white themed cooler, I would consider getting something that fits the bill out of the box or is cheaper to begin with.

Where are you shopping/located and what are you cooling?

You could always try for the Cryorig H5 Ultimate. Its exactly 160mm, and mostly black. I think it also provides slightly better cooling than the H7, but I don't know how the clearance would be in your case or around your RAM. I know the H7 is designed specifically to not interfere with any RAM height.

Cryorig also sells that black fan individually if you want an H7 but with black instead of white.
