hello! I'm Blitzbrieg! i was surfing through youtube and came across this video,

My question was is this true? can you literally unlock hidden processing cores that stands idle until one dies?

i'm a bit scared about even using this method because i have not trusted this source. but i do like to make more

of an understanding whether or not this is a joke that's meant to make your pc die within 12 minutes after a restart

or is this something that can work?

Aside from that! You the community or Linus Tech Tips! please send your response!

also it would be nice as a fast as possible video! just a heads up! ;)

Only a few Phenom IIs and Athlon IIs had the ability to unlock and half of them became unstable or absurdly hot. Currently - it's impossible

They don't have extra cores.

They only time you could unlock cores was on am3 with the phenom and althons.

Many new i7's on lga 2011 have extra cores, but there laser cut so they can never be used or activated.

The above is correct

Blue screens eh? Did you try setting it to Wumbo?

Thanks! now all i have to do is figure out how to fully block his channel from my eyes. i don't like trolling whatsoever because of what happened to my Emachines in 2008 when tutorial videos came out to be popular... back then i was a dumb stick just learning how a computer works.

Meh.

When I was young, I tried practically every tweak you could find on the internet. One thing I can tell you with certainty, is that there is no such thing as, "Free" performance.

You overclock, you generate more heat, you wear your components out faster.

You disable services and and processes, you lose functionality.

You disable monitoring services deep rooted in an OS, and you run into timer issues.

You increase timer resolution, you increase CPU overhead and power consumption.

The older AMD processors were pretty much the only example of, "Free" performance, but it was never a guaranteed thing. Most of the time, they were poorly binned chips with defective cores that were disabled so they could be sold.

The best way to ensure the best possible performance is just to keep your machine clean, your hardware relevant for what you want to do, and fix any and all errors that are impeding normal operation of your system.

I find that funny... "hidden cores" also made my head hurt too. I would like to see where he got his "info" from. I've heard of AMD having, i believe phenom and just going from memory, CPUs that were tri-core but had the 4th disabled for stated reason said above and being able to restart it through motherboard features (not sure if this is true tbh). Though having a Quad-Core CPU with dormant cores in case one "fails" so the related one can take over... come on. Off topic, this is the same guy that said you can turn your PS3 or X360 into a PS4. I wonder how many people tried this.....

Core unlocking was a thing on AM3 Phenom II and Athlon II - but half of the locked cores were not really usable.
