Did Microsoft Gimp Windows 7?

I've had my PC for 5 years and I've noticed that it's gotten alot slower, these past few weeks; both in vdeogames and productivity(video encoding/power point/etc). I did a full system scan and found no issues. So I reinstalled everything and it was working fine for the past few days, until today, when my system automatically updated itself with latest patches. So I reinstalled windows 7 on a brand new drive and it was fine again, until it began downloading security updates and viola slow again! I purged and reinstalled windows and did not let it update this time. The difference is night and day. In games like skyrim and crysis I see a 5-10fps jump, my presentations encode about 15% faster and best of all I no longer have the windowsX nuisance in my tray. I wanted to test my hypothesis and add some security updates so I installed windows to another drive I had and removed everything but the patches up until April of 2015 and this install of windows runs as fast if not faster than my other install. As soon as I install any of the windows X associated KBxxxxxxxx my computer begins to slow down drastically. I dont know if microsoft is intentionally gimping windows 7 or if it's just hardware overhead from the new patches being implemented. Either way I'm keeping my system the way it is now. Has anyone else had similar experiences?

i'm not saying you're being a tinfloil hat here, i'm actually pretty sure you *are* experiencing what you describe here, but i feel like it's either an isolated issue, or something not playing nice with something else.

Its just the typical successive update bloat-any time I update Windows 7 everything runs noticeably slower. Windows 10 so far doesn't seem to have that issue, but then again-I disabled the Windows update service as it kept on downloading updates while I was playing games online.

What happens is, the software suites and games, start optimizing for W10 and stop bothering with W10 drivers, firmware and updates

so slowly W7 will get worse and worse until it is abandoned and gets no love at all

The UI? what? its just like Windows 7, you dont have to use "modern UI" or apps at all, ive never seen or used a single one, and there are various UI improvements over older versions too
 

Aero? who cares, install rainmaker and customise the UI and aesthetics until the cows come home

 

Constant pestering? not seen a SINGLE notification since upgrading since I am ON 10 why would they ask me to upgrade to 10? 

 

Eventually you will have to, software will just stop being fully sported, drivers etc too, plus you will miss out on newer features, especially as gaming is concerned

 

Or stay in 2009 and slowly become irrelevant

I've gotta ask, why do you think so? I find that sentiment really puzzling.

 

Everyone hated the tiled Start screen and the lack of a proper Start menu, and rightfully so, but aside from those Windows 8 was at least a marginal upgrade over 7. Windows 10 brings back the Start menu, and never shows you the Start screen unless you're using a tablet. So with 8's two big problems eliminated, what's left to make it as bad as 8?

 

On a side note, I personally prefer the Windows 10 UI, when set up the way I like, to Windows 7's pseudo-3D, 90's-style Aero. After so many years of looking at it, it was really wearing on me.

Because windows 10 is just windows 8 with a poorly implemented start menu. The live tiles are annoying and the pastel color scheme, wherever applied; is vomit inducing(green, purple, blue, yellow). I'd prefer vista over 10 any day.

The UI is uglier and less logical than windows 7.

 

I will not be reliant on third party apps to regain some basic functionality like I had to be with windows 8. 

 

Pestering people is wrong, and by downloading windows 10 you've taught ms it's okay to annoy people to force shit down their throat.

 

I will not upgrade until I get an OS that is just as beautiful and functional and logical as 7. DX12 does not interest me as most modern games are crap.

I don't like the Windows 10 visual design, lack of aero, and start menu, either. But Those things can be made to look and work like Windows 7, or Vista, or other, using:

And you can also replace sounds, and replace the Windows boot, login, and shutdown screens.

 

I'm just mentioning these things as options. I'm still using Windows 7, as well as 10. I like the Windows 7 environment a lot more.

For Win10, you can change the start menu to look like Win8.
