My First gaming pc build

Hi guys just wondering what everyone thinks about my first pc build. I didn't want to go all out first try but did want a bit of uparading possible

 

Motherboard: MSI Z170A-Gaming Pro Carbon Motherboard

 

CPU: Intel Core i5 6400

 

Case: CoolerMaster CM690 III Mid Tower Case with Window Green

 

Psu: Corsair CS550M Modular 80 Plus Gold Power Supply

 

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK8GX4M2A2133C13 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4

 

Graphics card: possibly Geforce gtx 1060 or 2 970's 

 

Trying to keep costs low already have hdd and monitor and stuff 

If anyone has some suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

6500 insted of 6400. Quite a difrence in clock speeds for low price. Go with either 1060 or 1070, insted of sli 970's. Other wise good gud

Also; if you want better upgrade options for the future X99 is better.

Don't get a Z170 board if you have a non overclockable chip.

What's your exact budget?

The PSU is mediocre, Get an EVGA G2, B2, GS, GQ, P2, Anything from Seasonic or XFX (excluding the XT), the Corsair RMi, RMx, HXi, AXi. 

A Z170 motherboard will not effect performance is not needed since the CPU is locked and cannot be overclocked. I'd get a H170 or B150 motherboard instead since they are often a lot cheaper.

DO NOT do a dual GPU settup, they just make your life harder. Something like a RX 480, GTX 1060 and previous generation cards on clearance are also good choices.

(GTX 960 < R9 380 < R9 380x < GTX 970 = RX 480 < R9 390 < R9 390x < GTX 980 < R9 Nano < Fury < Fury X)

 

An SSD is recomended, the Kingston SSDNOW UV400, Samsung 850EVO and ADATA SP550 are very good budget SSDs.

Was looking at getting i7 6700k later on when I have a bit more cash

Don't really have a exact but trying for under $1000 to get it running then better CPU ssd more ram and anything else when I have more money

Hey I'm glad you noticed that part. Yes as far as I know X99 allows you to upgrade further later on with upcoming CPU's rather than LGA1151 does. You get 8 RAM slots too.

And yeah sure, the Godlike X99 is what you should get if you want your overkill build!
