Is DDU safe?

Hello there!,

My name is Inuka and I am planning to buy a r9 380 for my build  people have recommended me this software called DDU I have heard people have got viruses from Guru3D (website where you download it from) I am scared that I will get one and it will mess up my PC which I have spent time and effort into..

 

People have said it does not contain viruses and I believe them of course! but I need to double check because I am VERRRYYYY paranoid when it comes to malware/viruses or downloading anything of the internet.

My antivirus:

Avira antivirus FREE

Malwarebytes FREE

Safest and easiest way to avoid using DDU is reinstalling the OS, but that takes time and is boring to go through. Alternatively you can go and hunt down files and registry entries manually, but that's a pain to deal with

people usually use DDU when switching from nVidia to AMD (or the other way around). You're probably fine with just uninstalling current driver and installing a fresh one (though I'm not sure it's necessary)

Can I use device manager or the AMd install manager? anyway I'm gonna put in another AMD cpu with the same drivers as my current cpu right now.

device manager would be better, imo. basically just rolls back the driver to a "generic display adapter"

barnacules can talk about how that's sadly not always the case here.

 

in general, DDU isnt necessary, but it's a "safeguard" in case something odd comes up.

It might be hit or miss, but it's an option

ddu is safe. You only need it if theres issues with your new gpu, like sluggish picture, low fps, or even artifacts. I would run ddu before changing the gpu, just in case. But its your choice.

yes, but if you get problems then its time for some driver cleaning.
