Posted July 13, 2016 That seems really got for just gaming at stock voltage, not dangerous though. But I imagine with that cooler even heavy gaming would have it sitting around high 60's. Posted July 13, 2016 Is that too hot? No, it's safe. But, it's a lot hotter than I think it probably should be. I wonder why it isn't cooling better than that... The time to start worrying is above 85C It's a technically "safe" temperature, but it's a lot more than I'd expect at stock settings, a relatively low manual voltage, and in such a GPU-heavy game. If it were me, I'd double-check that the cooler was installed correctly and there wasn't something drastically hurting airflow inside the case. Individual CPUs vary a lot in what voltages and clock frequencies they'll tolerate, but since basically the same amount of power is flowing through the chip I don't think the silicon lottery accounts for there being big variances in temperatures at stock settings. Posted July 14, 2016 I use arctic silver 5. It's not the very best but it lasts for years. I have seen many different thermal pastes decompose over years of use. Those are not high temps but for an after market 92mm cooler, those are pretty high. The CPU's can easily go into the 90's under heavy load without much of a problem. I would think that those temps with the coolermaster cooler would be under heavy load with significant voltage increase and a decent OC. You should probably re paste the CPU. Posted July 14, 2016 What is the cpu load when you get those temps? Download Realbench from asus, and run the stress test for an hour. Check the temp on the cpu atleast every 10 min. If it doesnt get above 80C in that test(the test will load the cpu 100% for a whole hour), you are fine. If you get closer to 90C, you should buy a new cooling solution. But more and more games utilizes multicores, so i think we will see a performance boost on multicore processors in the future. But there arent enough games that benefit significantly from it yet, so as of now a 6700K is the best option for those with a limit to their wallet.
