Rx 480's are not exactly in stock at the moment, and this is just a bit higher price/lower performance, and with less than half the memory... So if you need something vr capable right now, this might be a reason to buy it.

true . but considering how fast nvidia dropped kepler , it would be wiser to wait for stock or get the 1060 when it launches

for VR and future proof why not get a 390? it has 8gb of vram and is faster than a 970

If someone want something within that range right this moment, then this would be it. However I do agree on waiting it out as the best solution.

they are at least $50 pricier than the 970 on this sale, but otherwise I agree with 390 being a better card. I still don't think "future proofing" is real. Raw performance is going to be outdated on the 390 way before the 8gb vram.

Apologies, i thought you were comparing to the 1060.  My mistake, I didn't read closely enough.

It's about 40% better, and is completely obsoleted by the pascal. 1070 has a bit better performance over 980 ti across the board.

For hackintosh installations, you're pretty much stuck with the 960 / 970 / 980 cards at the moment due to lack of drivers for the 10xx series.

"But macOS doesn't use drivers!!!" -- Yeah, sure it doesn't. :)

If you can get it dirt cheap, other than that there is no reason.
