Building a new rig right now. Will be my first time building one.

gigabyte z170x-gaming 5 mobo

i7 6700k

gtx 1070

32 gbs of ram

500 gb ssd

2 TB for mass storage, and another one for backups.

noctua d15 for cooling

650 watt psu

Basically, if i want to install windows from a usb, what would the process be like from the start?

Do I just throw the installer on a usb and navigate it from the bios screen?

Yes. But the installer has to be bootable using a program, just google how to do it.

Depends on what key the bios uses to open the boot menu. Try "F12" at startup. If not, "F2" or "del". If those don't work either, just move down the row and try all of the f keys lol.

Read the link @Enderman posted.

You have to use the installer and have it install the files to the USB drive. You can't just drag the exe onto it. Then after that, try the f keys. Alternativly, you can go into BIOS and specify which device you want to attempt to boot from. If you're not sure how to do that, you would have to just look it up, with whatever BIOS that mobo uses.

Edit, whoops, you're not OP, lol. It differs for each mobo. Most do have it at the del key to enter BIOS.

If its full new system, you can just check that USB is selected as first or even only boot device. Then you will get "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD" screen after POST. At that point pressing any key will load bootable device. From that point on its just like installing software. If you are unsure, google finds detailed guides which tell how to act on all the steps taken.
