Intel Stock Painting

Wolf585
Go to solution Solved by vanished,

If you paint the heatsink itself, depending on the thermal properties of the paint (which are almost certainly poor) you might notice a significant increase in temps.  Every layer of material adds resistance to heat transfer, like fences in the path of a runner or rocks in a water pipe.  If you paint the heatsink, you may insulate it enough to make it completely useless, especially since the stock coolers are only just barely good enough to begin with.

Will it Affect Performance?

Hi! As we all know the Intel Stock Heatsink is pretty ugly and won't match some peoples build. I was wondering if Painting the heatsink itself would severely affect the cooling performance.

Thanks!

how about you spend the money you would spend on paint and put it towards a cpu cooler!

Take off the blue sticker and it looks a million times better. Just make sure you heat it up with a blow dryer or heat gun and then slowly peel it off so there isn't any residue left over.

Like he said, get a better cpu cooler!

Looks nicer and cools your cpu better!

Yes, temps will be noticeable higher if you paint the heatsink. They still might be low enough depending on your cpu.

Make sure to not paint over the contact area at the bottom.

Or use WD-40, it eats through adhesive and thermal paste along plenty of other things

Havent had a petroleum based product eat through fiberglass before. Guess stefan's oil cooled build is going to explode.

I suppose it's not so much that it eats motherboards as it is that using it on one then immediately turning the PC on is a bad idea.

No, i didn't do it.

If you get something like a Hyper 212 EVO, you can paint the top aluminium to make it look better.
