Fx 8350 vs I5 4590

Will I see a gaming improvement going for an Fx 8350 to an I5 4590? I'm also running 8 gigs of 1866mhz ram, and a Gigabyte GTX 970.

 

Don't tell me to wait on Zen.
Don't tell me to go to Skylake.
I've heard it before and its not what I'm asking.
Just an answer to the question please.

its a better cpu. But I dunno if its worth getting a new motherboard for at this point. 

I will say that up till last month I was still rocking a i7 3770k and it was chugging along just fine.

The i5 4590 by far. The FX 8350 is becoming outdated for gaming.

I had an FX 8320 and upgraded to an i5 4690k.  I noticed a substantial increase in minimum frame rates on certain games.  With my old CPU I would get occasional stuttering, but have had no such problem with my i5.  

 

From my experience, yes it is a noticeable upgrade.

Alright thanks! I wont have any cooler other than the stock for quite awhile but I will eventually have a Hyper 212 evo or some air cooler around that price/performance.

Im getting a Asus Sabertooth Motherboard so would it be worth the $40 ($70 including the cooler) to get the 4690k and overclock? Or just stick to the 4590 and stock cooler?

My next build will be a completely new rig once im out of college so Im not worried about upgrades on this platform.

Not that simple. My motherboard and cooler would need to be replaced.

~$100 for a decent water cooler to get decent clocks and a simliarly priced mobo to the one i found for the Intel . Also the 4590 is only $150 near me

There's always the noctua d15. Which mobo do you have right now?

On a plus side when you get a new rig after college you could definitely re use the AIO or noctua as it'll still be pretty relevant.

Its junk but I knew nothing about PCs when I built this one.

So a new i5 4590 costs 200usd and a good mobo would be 100 more on that.

Whereas you could get a new better am3+ mobo with the noctua for less than 200 and OC your Fx8350.

And reuse the noctua later on.

 

All comes down to you.

I can get the 4590 for 150 right now as well as a good mobo for 72. All thanks to a local microcenter.

Its not the top fps Im worried about. Thats still GPU bound, its consistency. Most games I play Hover between 30-80 fps with the exception of Battlefield 4 which never goes below 60. This would say to me that its a CPU issue. Its well known that the 8350 isnt holding up anymore and I can tell
