Depends on your location.

From what I hear, the prices are around the same as a 970 in parts of the UK.

 

Maybe when the demand/price drops to a more reasonable level, and the pci-e issue is resolved.

A 1080 will be roughly 2x as fast as a 480.

480 is perf is abut same as 970 and not 980. And 480 in cf is almost as fast as 1080 in only few games

RX 480 is for 1080p and VR.

Some might say that it can run 1440p ... well it can ever run 4k if you set everthing to low and don't need more than 30fps (you know human eye can't see more than 2 fps anyway bla bla bla).

 

Simple as that: RX 480 is for 1080p.
