So I just finished building the computer, went to turn it on with a monitor connected however it doesnt show an output. The case light turns on when the power button is pressed but appart from that I cant see or hear anything.

Mobo: x99e-itx/ac from asrock

CPU: i7 6800k

Graphics card: 1070 evga SC

I know to get the CPU working on the mobo it needs a bios flash, but wouldnt it still post with the mobo not having the correct bios?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Pine

Nope, without the right BIOS you won't get a POST or anything.

Damn, and I don't need to use a keyboard mouse or monitor to do a bios flash then I guess?

You can't flash the BIOS without booting into windows. You can either try to contact their support and see if they have a removable BIOS chip they can ship you or if you have local computer shop see if they'll do the upgrade for you.

some mobo will flash if you put a USB with the bios .bin file or whatever on the root of it.

I understand OP's logic, lots of mobo's will boot with an unrecognized CPU, but on the lowest multiplier and thus with crap performance.

Or they will atleast boot to BIOS.

Depending on what his motherboard can do, he might be able to do the USB stick method.

Ugh that's a pain, if I download the bios on a laptop then transfer it onto a USB stick, will that work?

There are certain boards that can do usb bios flash without booting into bios menus, including some asus and gigabyte boards. not entirely sure how asrock works tho

Yah, I don't think Asrock supports this functionality, or at least I've never heard of one that does.

Wtf are you guys talking about? Why would he need to get into Windows to do a bios flash?

He just needs a Cpu first that properly boots with that boar which will only be 5820, 5930 and 5960 (and some xeons)

Just try to go into some store and let them flash it for you with the right cpu or send it to asrock.

I don't think it does either.

He might be able to get a cheap supported low-performance chip to update the BIOS with.

Yah, either that or go to a repair ship that might have a chip available that can do the flash for him.

I wasn't sure how ASRock offered their BIOS but it's possible they only offer it via an executable which needs to be run within Windows.

I don't think getting a "cheap" x99 chip is a viable option really, I'll contact asrock and see what they say, but I'm just wondering if anyone here knows any more

It has been always recommended to not do BIOS flashing via Windows due to way higher chance for issues. Most, if not all, including ASRock, can do BIOS update from within the BIOS menu, you have to have the BIOS file on a USB drive.

You can either borrow a Haswell-E chip or send it back to AsRock for flashing.  Those are pretty much your choices.  Do you know anyone who'd be willing to let you use their chip to update your BIOS?  Are you near a Micro Center?

My asrock motherboard can just download the BIOS from the internet, from the BIOS itself.

AsRock will also send you a BIOS chip, although you'll need to check if that board has a removable chip. If yes, great, otherwise send it to them or do as @done12many2 suggested.

I'm not in America and I ordered most of my stuff from overclockers.co.uk, just sending a report request to asrock now and I'll see what they say

It has a removable chip which is a good sign I guess :D

there is no QuickFlash without POST,

but you can try being persistent and mashing F6 even during black screen, maybe you'll luck out and get into Instant Flash wizard

if not, you'll have to go to local store and ask if you can use any of the Haswell-E to quickly flash the BIOS

Yeah, my mobo has version P1.20 and it says for the broadwell-e support I need P3.10, and I think the only way I'll get that is if they give me another chip (dunno how long thatll take x.x).

Didn't think the new cpu meant it wouldn't post but oh well, thanks everyone for your help! :D

be brave, don't let go of it - try F6

go to your local store, pretend to buy 5820K then return it, it'll be faster than ASRock responds to the support ticket

If your trying the instant flash, have you plugged in a USB drive with the updated bios on it? also my Asus board has a bios flashback (similar to the instant flash that Asus offers) that works without the CPU even in the socket so I wouldn't be surprised to see it work.

You can trust me, I'm from the Internet.
