Ideas on how to find the best (value) business laptop for $400

I'm shopping for a business laptop. The budget is $400, screen size from 11 to 14 inch. I have been browsing on Newegg and I'm seeing a bunch of refurbished 3rd generation Intels. But isn't it better to get a newer lower tier CPU than an older higher tier? I mean 3rd generation, that's 4 years old... And since this is a business laptop, the CPU is the most important. I'm out of ideas on how to find the best value for the $300 - $400 price range. Any ideas? Recommendations? Please help me...

Also I'm buying for US.

Ebay is normally better for pcies than newegg. Id probably look at a dell e6440/e6420. A older faster cpu is better than a newwer slower cpu. 3rd gen cpu's aren't that old and not that much worse than current ones.

Lenovo Yoga 500-15ISK 80R6

You might need a similar variant as I am UK.

*edit Some are out of your price range but if you go fishing for a bit you will find some decently priced ones. :)

First of all what are your uses for this "business" laptop. Basic excel/word processing, any ULV processor from any generation will be fine. Need to manage thousands of lines of excel with macros and advanced pivot tables while running a powerpoint at the same time (co dependencies), you might want to go for a quad core.

Laptop Main

(Retired) Alienware 15 R3: i7-6820HK, GTX1070, 16gb, 512 SSD + 1tb HDD, 1080p

Go used/refurbished/"open box".

I was able to pick up a Dell Latitude E6440 with 1080p screen off of eBay for $299 a couple months ago.  Yes, it needed another $100 in RAM and SSD upgrades, but basically, I have a very nice Haswell laptop for ~$400 in outlay, i5-4310M.

OP my I7 second gen ULV CPU in my T420s is as powerful as the i5 6200u and beats every single older i5.

A 3rd gen i7 is better than a 4th, 5h and most like also a 6th gen i5.

See if you can find a ThinkPad, since they are the best business laptops...

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M
