Hey guys. I'm running a q6600 at stock clocks (motherboard wont allow overclocking) and in BF3 and GTA V it really chugs. So rather than buying a new 775 board to oc I just want a new platform. My budget is about 200 USD, but I can go over, and yes I am OK with buying used parts. Thanks.

any plans on upgrading that GTX 460? cause that will make games ''chugs'' as well :P

For platform upgrade...this is the best you can do for around 200$...because with that it's very energy efficient and it has an insane upgrade path to a core i5 or core i7 in the future and you are buygin DDR4 ram which is the latest and greatest and should follow you for a while as well....so a very good way to spend 200$ IMHO

Gtx 460 at the moment, hoping to upgrade to an RX 480 or something of the likes soonish.

That's why the games "chug," you're using an outdated card to play modern games. CPU upgrade would help, but it would not fix the problem. A new GPU would go a long way.

Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

Nah man, I'm not hitting max gpu usage and my cpu is pinned. I'm pretty sure it's the cpu.

yeah it's a bit of both...i used to have a Q6600 myself and it was getting a real workout in BF3 for example...and it was overclocked to 3.6ghz...so a nice heatly 33% overclock like you won't see much anymore these days.

That said, CPU will only go half the way...with a new shiny intel CPU in there you'll want a new graphics card as well. :)

Alright, and that i3 should do good in gta v and bf3 then? Because if it weren't for those games I'd stick with my q6600.

Also, I was thinking about buying a xeon x3440 4c 8t, and this motherboard. The board supports it and its a little faster than my q6600 and 2x the threads. What do you think?

If the CPU is the bottleneck, then yes, you should upgrade it. My point is that the games you are trying to play will still struggle with the 460 even if you have a top of the line CPU.

Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

i think for gaming that little core i3 is a lot better than that old ass xeon chip.

And yes it will do fine in those games with a mid-range graphics card...if you plan on using higher end cards i would advise you to save a bit more and slap the i5-6400/6500 in there which will keep up with just about anything.
