Sob Story (True)

Okay so I sold my GTX 780 back on May 19th and have been without a GPU since. I bought this shiny new 1440p Qnix monitor in order to celebrate my birthday in June and me passing my first year of college. However it has taken me until now to gather the funds to acquire a GTX 980 Ti. This is where my tragedy begins.

I woke up at 6 a.m. today in order to order my new GPU. I found one on sale for $380 and happily picked it up. However afterward I received a message from the seller saying that he wouldn't be back home until a week from now expecting it to be bid on instead of outright bought (idiot). However I said okay and accepted my wounds. I went to my weekend job knowing that I would have no respite come Monday when the mail man graced me with his presence. However after work he notified me he wouldn't be able to get the card out to me until Tuesday of the following week. I said no way and asked for a refund which he kindly provided. However now I must wait for my refund to be processed over the weekend and to hit my account on Tuesday, all the while watching all of the sales on Newegg and eBay go by. All of this of course lengthening my suffering and torturing me.

This is why I didn't bother with buying off of ebay or anything, even with a budget that was essentially anything I could find under my bed and what people gave me.

My friend gave me 360 dollars one time to help me. Like he walked into the school and handed me 360 dollars in cash, saying "for your computer". I am forever in debt to him

The smartest idiot you will ever find

Why are you even buying a graphics card from eBay?

IMO 9 out of 10 will be a mined out piece of shit.

No one in their right mind would mine on a 980 Ti, nor any Maxwell GPU at all. Their compute and hashing capabilities are so shit that a 7950 likely trashes them. I looked up in the Mining Hardware comparison chart over on the BTC Wiki, and they don't even have any Maxwell or even Kepler cards listed at all. A 7950 has a hash rate of about 500-600MH/s (Mega Hashes/second), and a GTX 680 has ~120MH/s.

Point being, a 980 Ti is very unlikely to have been used for mining. Now if you're buying an AMD card on eBay - especially one that is "dirt cheap"... well now you have a mighty fine point.
