I have a XFX DD r9 270x and I am overclocking it using Msi afterburner. I have been using the 3d mark Firestrike stress test to see if it is stable. I am running 1115 on the core and 1425 on the memory clock without touching voltage. The program says it is perfectly stable when running the 20 loop test for 10 minutes. I got a grey screen when playing csgo for about an hour. I am new to overclocking and was wondering if this is a reliable way to test gpu stability.

Unsure what power supply to pick?

Check out my HTPC build.

CS:GO usually isn't fond of overclocks iirc.

So it is a stable overclock but when running csgo I should run at default?

Yes. Or try CS:GO at lower clocks for a while. Maybe only a few MHz above stock. If it has a hiccup at those settings then it's best off running it at stock unfortunately :(

If your OC tool allows you to create profiles then do that. So you don't have to manually remember settings.

Just reduce the clocks until it stops acting weird. Games sometimes have issues with overclocks, even with it seems stable in synthetics like firestrike.

The crew is a game where my oc usually does not hold up, so I have to back it down to have a stable game.

I've been doing a lot of testing with the new Firestrike Stress Test. I would ignore the %s at the end of the test. What you want to observe for are artifacts during the test. They arent as glaring as artifacts you'll encounter ingame. They're usually indicated by a black streak or box on the screen or a solid streak of color here and there. They are very momentary.

I've been thoroughly impressed with the new Stress Tests and I like that they have a variety for future proofing of more powerful GPUs. A lot of sites will recommend tests like Heaven which are old and do not hit the max TDP for new hardware, which is one of a few reasons why when you play games like Overwatch you're locking up.

I ended up with a 100% stable OC of an air cooled GTX960 and have been playing about 8 hours of Legion Beta and 4 hours of Overwatch with zero issues.

They're not crazy results, but they are 100% stable under any load.
