Gaming monitor 1440p/1080p

Scratchy1215

Hey thanks in advance for any help, I'm basically looking for a 1ms 144hz 1080p monitor or a 1ms 60hz 1440p monitor. I have around 400-500$ would perfer a mount as well for it but the monitor is most important, I have a i5 4690k  with a R9 380 to drive it.

any plans on upgrading that R9 280 any time soon? something that can handle 1440p on high settings perhaps?

what game of gamer/user are you? what you do with the computer most of the time?

I have a r9 380 8g that can handle 1440p. I play video games and watch YouTube lol. I just don't have much experience with monitors

380 will not be amazing at 1440p in intensive games!

1440p IMHO even on medium settings look better and more refined that 1080p ultra settings...that said i'm not even sure the R9 380 can handle 1440p medium and get 60FPS in demanding titles such as witcher 3 or rise of the tomb raider for example...you'd have to check gameplay video on youtube for example...but if you play a lot of ''not so demanding'' games such as maybe overwatch for example, or some call of duty/battlefield and stuff...racing games...sports games...etc i don't know...a good 1440p 60hz monitor would suit well...if you're more competitive and play only shooters you probably want 1080p 120hz...i'm ''balanced'' in that i play pretty much anything that interest me only thing i don't play is RTS and RPG games but for me personaly if you do single-player compaigns in action games for example...it's all stuff that will look and feel better on a 1440p screen...but again R9 380 would mean cutting on graphics fidelity quite a bit sometimes.

i used to game on a GTX 780 on my monitor for the first month and honeslty it wasnt bad i was able to play anything witcher batman arkham knight assassin's creed and stuff on medium/high most of the time at near 60FPS or better...but is the R9 380 as fast as a 780? maybe now it is i don't know the R9 380 is basicaly the same as the R9 280 which is an overclocked HD7950 which i was an owner of BEFORE i upgraded to a GTX 780 and the GTX 780 at least at the time was a lot stronger...so it's very possible that 1440p would be a bit much to ask for a R9 380...

Not even close. My 970 can only do 45-55 fps on Witcher 3 at 1440p medium.

yeah that's what i thought...getting a 1440p monitor with that GPU is pretty much guaranteed to make this user want a new GPU within a month time then.

Its not but his gpu wont do 1440p, not at any decent level, he should get a benq xl2411z because 1080p is much easier to drive especially with a midish range gpu

Why?  Monitors usually stick around for far longer than video cards do for most folks.  He should get the monitor, enjoy the resolution bump, and adjust game settings to suit his needs.
