As there have been many threads regarding this topic over the past few days, I thought I would post this fairly comprehensive (and easy to digest) Q&A I found which really breaks it down and pretty much answers all the question I had.

http://www.thv11.com/news/article/281569/125/66-questions-and-answers-about-the-government-shutdown

WASHINGTON - It's been 17 years since the federal government last faced a partial shutdown because Congress and the president couldn't agree on a spending bill. A lot has changed in that time, leaving federal employees, citizens and even government decision-makers confused about what a shutdown would mean.

Every shutdown is different. The politics that cause them are different. Because of technology and structural overhauls, the way the government functions has changed since 1996. Much of what will happen is unknown.

I'm very much interested in the US politics, much more so than the politics of my own nation. I think articles like this are very helpful in spreading knowledge to those who aren't familiar with the (incredibly stupid) situation.

I do tend to get lost when watching any US politics because it's more like a TV drama than reality to me :D It's almost surreal some of it: The legalised bribery, the corruption on almost every level, the gerrymandering being paid for to make the electorate say whatever someone wants it to say. It's like going to the circus as a child, almost bedazzling in its sheer level of bizarre theatrics.

For the same reason I really like modern history, especially US. It's pretty entertaining, comes complete with backstabbery, grudge holding asshats, lies, greed, and sex scandals all in one package.

I don't even understand why we have Jersy shore when we have DC

I know, that's what makes it so interesting, watching these men lie through there teeth then get cheered like they saved people's lives. America is so interesting due to the fact that they have a weird way of doing everything. I thought the United Kingdoms method of approving bills etc was outdated, but in my opinion, america's entire way of approving things is so bad. I mean, you can't decide something, so you shut down the whole fucking government? What is that about, I don't know who they're doing all the work for, because they certainly don't have the general population in mind. 800,000 people on furlough, the department in charge of making sure there isn't going to be a pandemic shut down, it disgusts  me and most of this post probably makes little sense due to me spewing words out in rage.

@helping that is the best quote ever, man, mind if I take that?

All a shutdown does is force the House to decide on a bill. The use of the word Shutdown is misleading IMO.

If only. And public schools still were in session today.
