MSI GL62 6QF-631NE vs Lenovo Y-700

Hi,

Im a fellow noob when it comes to the new usb-c and thunderbolt scene. And I am wondering if the "MSI GL62 6QF-631NE" is compatible with Thunderbolt 3. I've been thinking of getting this laptop for school. And later on I would like to hook it up to an external graphics card, for example a Razer Core.

Or if I should get the Lenovo Y-700 which has near to identical specs, except for that it has the GTX960 4GB version instead of MSIs 2GB version and the USB-C Port.

And then later get a desktop after I'm finished with school.

Any Ideas?

Drop the eGPU idea. Either build a desktop or get a gaming laptop without any unrealistic expectations. The Razer core still has no support for non-razer products. And eGPU is clunky as fuck - getting it to work right is a pain in the ass. Not to mention eGPU ends up costing twice as much as a gaming laptop with the same horse power (example - the 1000$ laptop + 500$ core + 500$ 1070 GPU = 2000$) - for that price you can get a 1080M laptop and enjoy the EXACT SAME PERFORMANCE (likely)

There has been some testing of the Core on things other than Razer. I guess it actually does work on some Alienware laptops that have Thunderbolt 3 because they already have support for external GPU's via the Graphics Amplifier over their proprietary PCI-E interface. I think the external GPU idea needs some time to mature a bit and needs to come down in price. Once it does it'll be a enticing option but at this point I would agree that it's not worth the money.
