Hey, everyone, I found this place from Linus's videos. I am a first time PC builder and I have been researching the process for a few weeks now while putting together a parts list on pcpartpicker which you can take a look at here. I think I have a solid system planned out so far, the only thing I am iffy on is the correct power supply for my needs. I wanted to chime in and get some opinions from experienced builders and knowledgeable users here before I commit to buying my PSU.

On pcpartpicker, my system's wattage calculates out to 410W, while on Cooler Master's Power Supply Calculator comes out to 477W. So I have a good idea of what my system's wattage requirements are. I went a little overkill initially with selecting the Corsair RM850x as my power supply, I even had that on order as of this morning, but I quickly cancelled it after watching a few more videos on how to properly size up a power supply. I really don't want to bog down my system's performance all that much, if I can help it.

I plan on pushing my cpu and gpu here and there a bit in terms of overclocking, but I won't be constantly overclocking them to death. I also will be looking to pickup a second EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW card within the year to work in SLI and achieve stable 4K gaming (I will be picking up the FTW card, not the FE card listed on my build). So I may need to compensate a bit in choosing a higher rated PSU to accommodate all of this.

Again, I just wanted to stop in here and get some of your opinions and help in choosing the best Power Supply for my system's needs. Thanks in advance, everyone.

600w would be fine for your system as of right now. But if you're planning on going with SLI in the future, I would get an 850w. Of course, I think a 750 should be fine, but that's just me. Remember to pick out your PSU based on your needs (non modular, semi modular, fully modular) I would go with a fully modular because I can switch to custom cables anytime to make my build look beautiful. With a build like yours, I'd definitely be looking around for an 80+ gold rating, with high review scores on youtube, newegg AND the best of all, johnny guru. I recommend the EVGA supernova 850g2, great PSU. I've got a 650 and it has this ECO mode where the PSU fan will only turn on once it's under load, I'm pretty sure the RM series from corsair does that too.

I'm a person, you're a person...Together, we are people.

Both those calculators, as always, spout out random BS. Your system will never exceed 300W under heavily overclocked load. If you plan to SLI with two 1080s then a 750W PSU is fine while a 500W is fine if not.

Check out the PSU whitelist in my sig with those requirements in mind. For the 500W-ish range there's the EVGA 650GQ, 550W GS/G2, 750W EVGA B2, Seasonic G-series 550W, Corsair RMi 550W, or something else if, for whatever reason, those don't suit you.

750W would call for he EVGA G2. Easy.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Thanks for the quick feedback, guys, I appreciate it.

So downgrading from my original 850W Corsair to a 750W PSU sounds like the best option for me as of right now. I am really liking the looks of the EVGA G2s that you both mentioned, the ECO mode on that sounds great. I definitely want to keep it fully modular so I can eventually swap out the cables with white or red ones to match the motherboard.

But, I will keep looking into this PSU and may purchase it later on tonight.

The EVGA G2 and Corsair RMx both have eco mode and a 10 year warranty. Basically just toss a coin (Or go for the cheapest out of the two)
