Deliding 4770k

I'm planning a delid for my 4770k, with Liquid Ultra Pro Liquid Metal for it, using some nail polish to cover the small components next to the core.

But one question tho, is it fine to use fresh carpet knife to it?

Also, any other tips?

imo deliding doesnt bring any worthwhile performance increases but if you want. be patient and careful

4770k has this little flaw iirc the cap between IHS and core is bit too big and the tim there isn't the best of qualities

Edit: it's worth it, I really cant go above 4.2Ghz with this since the heat is enormous, hoping that delid drops the temps for more OC headroom

From what I've seen the knife method works but it's not the best and can be risky.... A lot of people use the vice method though and it seems fine though there is the risk of bending your CPU (though that shouldn't be a problem unless you are on Skylake). If you happen to have a 3D printer or have access to one there are delidding tools that can be 3D printed. They still require a vice but give a bit of support to the CPU.

seeing as the 4770K runs super hot it might be worth it, sounds like you have a good idea on what your doing here. i wouldent do it if it wasent for some cheepo processor for just overclocking but sure go for it, id love to see the results and some before and after OCs and benchmarks and heat numbers :) what are you planing on for cooling?

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Yeah I could have a access to 3d printer but that would be in about 2 months :/

My current AIO (240mm) with Corsair sp120's, and 4.4 sound alot better than 4.2, maybe even higher if I don't need to pump too much voltage to it.

Lol. A vice should be fine (I'm not exactly sure how you delid with a vice but there ar youtube vids out there). I've never delidded myself so you could try to find some guys with experience and ask them about it :)

It may or may not be "worth it". It's quite possible that your particular chip won't go above 4.2GHz anyway, but just run a few degrees cooler. Or you may only be able to get 4.3Ghz.

From what I've seen and read, de-lidding is an interesting thing to do for grins, but is rarely "worth it". :)

(It's even debatable whether any OC over 4.3 would be "worth it", no matter what. :) )

Eh, even if it wasn't such a good clocking chip, it would be an experience(I grasp for some action for this long summer) + at least I get to lower the fan speeds for silence.
