I mean headphones in general but in my opinion earphones are good for on the go

It really depends on where you are going to use them and for what.

 

For using them around town n shit, I'd probably go with earphones, because they are more discrete, small and all that crap.

 

If I'm going to use them at home only, whether it is for gaming or listening to some music, headphones all the way.

Not sure whats the point when there is no budget and no real criteria here.

 

With unlimited budget, forget about headphones or earphones.

 

Buy a house and properly tune a room to use speakers.

The OP's post specified that the headphones and earphones would be compared at the same price point (e.g. $30 earphones vs. $30 headphones, or $400 earphones vs. $400 headphones). 

 

I have little experience with different earphones and headphones, but based on my current knowledge I would guess that earphones are better at the under ~$70 price point and that headphones are better at the above ~$70 price point.

The criteria is that lets say you have a $100 budget would you get $100 earphones or $100 headphones?
