Why is the 1070s price are too high?

Naturally prices in uk are high compared to us but these prices that im seeing is too friggin high. 

 

A gtx 980 in the us is $450 and in the uk it will be £350. So in just shocked at these prices. If the us price is $500 the uk price should not be higher than 500 in numbers not considering the exchange rate

Yeah i know but the previous card were not like this. When do you think will it be available in amazon and other online stores

Supply and demand, less supply with high demand increases price.

That's how businesses operate. They sell products as high as they can get away with.

If people are buying 1070's for the current price, then they have zero reason to lower the price.

No,  not so much. You don't see phones pulling this. They keep their price at launch and for the next year or so despite supply and demand. The prices are higher for 1070s than what the 970s were because Nvidia had such a large increase in GPU power. They probably feel they deserve to raise the price for the leap in power vs just steps.

No, maybe it doesn't happen in phones, but in new cars, a lot of other items the sellers will raise the price of the item because there is going to be someone willing to pay that price effectively controlling the demand. 

 

Also they are not the reference cards so the makers can charge whatever they want for the card, unlike nvidia who will have to sell them at a set price. 

 

Nvidia does seem to have a bit of a confusing philosophy about pricing as the 1070 is almost priced at where a 980 is.

with amd it is very predictable the 280, 380, and now the 480 all retailed new for about $200.

We had a heated discussion about this last night.  Bottom line....nvidia is gouging.

I watched jayztwocents and barnacules techtalk #115 and they re talkin about the same thing
