I just started wondering this.

What I mean by 'actively cooled backplate' is essentially a waterblock on the back of the card.

I'm not in the delusion that it would actually do much, and I realize the issues it could cause with SLI and whatnot, but it seems like the sort of extreme "because we can" thing that at least someone would do.

I mean, a lot of cards nowadays are starting to have heat-producing components on the back as well...

so it has a heatpipe from where the core would be and then a tiny water block are the end it it? I can't see this doing very much.

idk but it's not like the 290X had much on it's back that required cooling :P

It wouldn't do much if it had channels either. That's rather the point.

Some VRMs.

Still...a 1200Mhz 290X with only the VRMs cooled on the front side doesn't go over 65-70C depending on whether it's VRM1 or 2...

it has heat pads to the back of the gpu die

Oh, I saw that picture...

That's not what I'm talking about, though. I'm talking about active cooling. Hopefully something with water channels.

Yeah, that's the iGame iChill Ultra. Is that fan really for the back? I could never find a good teardown of that thing...

Yes. There are also HDD blocks. Not SSD, HDD. (EK is making a 750 series block though)

I was hoping for examples...
