Get a small styrofoam block and press the CPU into it, put another small piece ontop of it and tape it.

I wouldnt do that styrofoam is an insulator and charge gets built up on the surface and the discharge can destroy the cpu

1 of 2 things, find a buddy that has a spare FX CPU plastic thing or buy an am3 motherboard just to keep it safe in transport.

DO NOT TROLL THIS KID! DELETE YOUR COMMENT!

As long as he handles it carefully and doesn't go running around on the carpet it shouldn't be too big of a deal.

That being said it's definitely not the best, I can't think of much else since I've always had a few OEM cases laying around.

its ironic that the styrofoam thing comes from a person who calls them self helping

I'm smart enough to know that Styrofoam is not a good idea at all. Also I think I will wear a latex glove and hold it

do you have an old metal pencil case{it'll act as a faraday cage}, thats were id put it the only difficult part would be holding it in place so it doesn't rattle around. latex is a type of rubber that is an insulator if your dead set on the idea im just going to say be careful especially if its a dry day were you are.

You guys speak of static like 19th century pastors would atheists

Unless you literally go rolling around on your carpet or rubbing foam together the ESD is negligible. Differences in charges are what kills things and as long as you don't do anything retarded you're fine. You're not walking around with an overly sensitive nuclear warhead.

Putting it on something like a sponge will be so much safer than any of the voodoo safety crap.

Here's a head start

sponge.jpg

Yes the yellow side.

No it won't kill your CPU. Put it in an antistatic bag if you want to go all the way.

I would maybe get a piece of cardboard and wrap it in electrical tape like this person: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showpost.php?s=786e745869543c453a83e01570aa45be&p=2259335&postcount=6

I once transported an E8400 in a large antistatic bag and it bounced all through out the bag but it arrived fine, and it still works today.

The sponge/Styrofoam method will work fine.  If you're paranoid... use aluminium foil around to ground it more... and protect it from EMP

Just make sure to protect the pins...

The chip still has pins.. unlike the newer intel chips.
