Post your experiences with free wifi, good or bad!

My latest: i am currently staying at a place that offers free wifi, so i got the password and logged in, then got informed that i have 3 hours, or a maximum of 25mb's down and 25mb's up, thats not speed, but total usage :( speedtest showed 0.5mbps speed...

(Interestingly i got halfway through posting this and it ran out, so i have had to retype it out on my 3G)

Edit: grammer

I have enjoyed using really good wifi at McDonalds but as for how well it works in our local mall my God.  Even when it is up it is terribly slow.

Same here, even if its not in a mall it just cant load a webpage so I just use the 3g

I used to live in apartment and the house next to me had no password on the wireless at all i even got into the router as no one changed the default password.  I don't wanna be mean and say i used QOS to my advantage so i'll just keep silent :P

Last time I used free wifi was at Denny's, which wasn't bad. My main problem with most places that have free wifi is that the router is behind like 3 walls from everyone so even when you're closer to it you still only get a 2 bar connection. Or they just have a crappy router.

Something I ought to mention, though, is that the Denny's was in the same building as a Flying J (the convenience store/gas station) and I had first tried to sign into Flying J's internet. They literally have you sign up for wifi and expect you to pay for it, at a public location. Obviously I didn't do that, I just used Denny's wifi. It's not like they needed the money, either, because it's one of those gas stations that's the only one around so there's always like 20 people there at least.
