So... I have a chance to get a first hand MSI GTX 980Ti Gaming for about $400, and given how the pricing goes in Thailand the cheapest AIB 1070 will be ~ $450 for sure. Is it still worth it getting a 980Ti? How would an average OCed 980Ti do compare to a 1070 Oced?

depends how much you can oc the cards. for reference, a 980 ti @ 1500mhz ≈ 1080 @ 2000mhz

you could probably oc the 980 ti easier and get better performance, but note:

looking back at the 700 series Nvidia kinda gave up on optimizing games for them when the 900 series came out so the 1070 might get better over time compared to the 980ti

I would go with the 1070, for only 50$ more you get a longer warranty, lower power consumption and looking back at the 700 series Nvidia kinda gave up on optimizing games for them when the 900 series came out.

Warranty would be the same since it's 1st hand (as in buying new from the store), but optimizing do concern me a little bit... Though as of right now every benchmark of OC 1070 seem to rank lower than a 980Ti OCed...

Not sure nVIDIA will stop making better drivers for the 900 series because it's a different architecture, this happened with 400 - 500 series, in some games the 580 was miles ahead of the 480 for no apparent reason sometimes 50%.

Now as it went from 500 - 600 series the drivers kept updating Fermi's whole range, nVIDIA are clever but not stupid.

let us all remember now and today, computers do not like abuse, they will fight back!

It also like that where I live too, it just because of a 1 day promotion that we have that price

On a side note in that same promotion I can get a MSI Gaming X GTX 1080 for ~ 610$ LOL. I will probably get one and sell it again later

610$ for a 1080 is pretty insane, you should definitely go for that if you can

I will but I will probably sell it to someone else at 700$ again LOL. I definitely dont need a 1080, the x80 one usually drop too much in price over the years compare to the x70 one so I will stick with a 1070 or a 980Ti, it wont lose as much value as the time goes by so my next upgrade will be easier on my wallet :P
