I have always been a sucker for the dark, over the top style of Richard Wagner and other 19th century composers

I also do quite enjoy the more avantgard wing of classical music

tend to prefer romance, but I do like classical and Baroque*. Beethoven's Fifth Symphony is probably one of the best pieces of music ever created, but here are some of my favorite composers: Ludwig Van Beethoven, Johann Strauss, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Antonín Dvořák, Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Bach, and Johannes Brahms (listen to Symphony No 4 in E minor and tell me you are not in love).

*damn autocorrect

EDIT 2

Oh! Favorite pieces! Got it...lemme edit this.

I know "everyone" loves this song but it is one of my favorites:

AND THIS is just absolutely beautiful.

FULL VERSION

I could go on and on, as the old western/European music is my favorite kind of music.

EDIT 3

There is actually a really nice playlist on Spotify full of some really amazing composers. I can't remember the official spotify URL, but I know of one that was saved in a discussion I had with someone else. Perhaps someone here will enjoy it: http://tinyurl.com/gno86mw

I like the Goldberg Variations played by Murray Pariah or Michael Leslie, also the Four Seasons. But just Summer and Winter. I find Spring and Fall uncomfortable to listen to...

As a classical pianist I was always more into solo performances rather than the full orchestra. One of my absolute favorites has to be Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition. Additionally I've lately picked up on classical guitar as well.
