Not to mention Xi3 makes some of the most overpriced machines out there.

 

AMD A10-4600M, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD. All for $1000 USD...

Some problems with the piston:

 

1. Overpriced

2. Underpowered

3. Too small to provide enough power at a decent cost.

I guess it is an engineering achievement to get it that small. But Did anybody ask for this? As far as i know neither pc gamers not console gamers have been craving for this form factor. They would rather pay less for something bigger and more powerful

I'm guessing everybody is forgetting what Steam Machines are.

 

Like Valve has said, they are going to be machines based on silence, performance, size, etc. etc.

 

Of course a "console" the size of a Xbox 360 controller is going to be expensive.

But nobody wanted this sort of form factor a console size machine is what everyone wanted and I doubt this machine will have much performance at all

Yeah, fortunately SteamOS is an open platform so we're bound to see a good Steambox at some point. The Xi3 is just not it.

It's actually pretty powerful if memory serves me. Good enough to play newer games at decent settings and framerates. It's just the price:performance ratio which is terrible. For the $1000 they want, you could build something so much better, or you could save yourself $500 and build a bigger machine with the same performance.

There are going to be MULTIPLE people making their own Steambox for sale.

 

Xi3 could be making the small form factor one, ASUS could be making a silenced optimized ITX Steambox and Nvidia could make their own performance based one.

Personally I don't even see the point in a pc this small I would rather have a console sized form factor, also this will be a disappointment to people who buy one thinking they will be able to play all their games on it and that will be a fair few people since steam boxes are largely aimed at gamers
