Noctua NF-F12 vs Scythe Gentle Typhoons. Which to keep?

LaboonTheWhale

Hey guys

So I have 2 NF F12's and 2 Typhoons and was planning on keeping 2 of them and selling the other 2.

Which is the better one to keep?

Typhoons have a better perf to noise ratio last I checked.

Check out martin's liquid lab, he has some tests that he did with a fancy wind tunnel thing he attached to a radiator + db meter and some other cool stuff.

Well considering Sycthe doesn't make those anymore, you could probably sell them for a fair amount.

They are rebranded Nidec fans. Nidec was the OEM for the fans when Scythe sold them. Basically Scythe owns the names while Nidecowns the design but Scythe allowed Nidec to still make them using the Gentle Typhoon name.

Ah. So would people by a Scythe version just for names sake? Scythe Branding vs Dark side.

People really only know Scythe's name when it comes to them.

When I had them in my custom loop I didn't think they were that loud. Then again I didnt have them ramp up all the way to 1850 RPM. I currently have a Noctua 140mm Industrial in my rig and oh boy does that thing move air.

yeah the industrial ones are loud too

you said in your post you had NF F12s

but are they NF F12 iPPC industrial ones? the black ones?

either way, its better to have quieter fans and run them near full speed than loud fans running at 50%

Sorry didn't mean to confuse.

Yeah I'm talking about keeping NF-F12's or Typhoons. I threw in the Industrial because I also have a 140mm Industrial fan cooling a radiator. Just as a point of reference about loud fans lol

i would keep the nf f12s because they are quieter, so you can run them closer to full speed to get good performance

the typhoons you would need to run at about 50% for it to be as quiet

and that means about 50% performance

so yeah, stick with the quieter fans and run them faster
