1080 vs. 1080 Ti (Next Year)

Go to solution Solved by ANewFace,

Now you see, you are caught in this, well should I wait for the next thing?, train that so many people get stuck in. If you keep saying should I get this I should I wait for the next thing? Then you could do that forever. I agree with waiting for the broadwell X99 chips, but when it comes to waiting for the 1080 ti, I wouldn't. And who ever said it would be way cheaper? $50 less at best. Just go for the 1080 if you build it before march of next year, just don't wait till may 2018 for the 1180, that's such a long wait and it's not worth it

Is that enough for 2 gpus and 2 nvme ssds in raid 0. Also I cant remember but i know only a few boards support raid 0 on nvme on m.2 know of one?

I don't know about to many boards that support RAID 0 with NVMe, try the Asus X99 Deluxe II. As for the GPUs, assuming you run each one at x8 lanes (which is more than enough), and get two NVMe drives (assuming they require x4 lanes), it will be a total of 24 lanes. I don't think you will need more than 28 to be honest.

I don't know of any boards that have 2 m.2 slots, but 28 lanes that the base 6 core 6800K will be enough, because the GPUs will both run at 8X and the SSDs both at 4X

He can use a PCIe lane adapter, rather than 2 m.2 slots.

This one does it has 3 and you can do raid 0 imaging the thoroput i would get 2 256gb samsung 950s and then eventually add a 3rd.

http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-LGA1151-Motherboard-GA-Z170X-SOC-FORCE/dp/B016EWMJ2Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1454299568&sr=8-1&keywords=z170x-soc+force&tag=pcper04-20

But according to this video the 3rd makes no sense lmao so 2 512gb makes more sense.

Mind me asking, what are you going to use all this speed for? Are you running a server?

To be honest I have not built a crazy rig in years, I want something that I would not have to touch for years ideally, so just because I want it.

Yeah, but that's a Z170, I haven't seen an X99 with 2 or 3

I think 2 in RAID 0 should last you at least 7 years lol. Those are going to be some speedy sticks of gum.

Oh yah, Z170 chipsets only have 16 PCIe lanes.

Il make a post I am buying all the other things now nice kb and mouse, dac and studio monitors and I am shopping for an ultrawide or 4k screen. I am just waiting on the next gen from intel to come out and amd too, but it seems more and more likely ill have to go to team blue. I had 3 500gb ssds and maxed out my current chipset at 1.8 gps and I really want nvme ssds so I returned them. I hope a motherboard comes out that supports 2 m.2 on skt 2011 if not ill save money and go skt 1151 because storage is more important to me and I am pretty sure a skt 1151 i7 can handle 2 high end gpus.

Did you see the new card that LTT just posted a video on this may change my upgrade plans if I can get into 1440p teritiory without a majot upgrade. I wanted to wait until higher core cpus dropped in price anyways.

News is sparse but apparently $199 r9 390x performance and 2 in CF would equal a 1080 if any of that is true I wont go crazy upgrading for a while, only thing confirmed is price.

O that crap... yeah... I've seen a bit on my way to work this morning... the demo is clearly running the RX 480's at lower quality than the 1080... and how will the CF micro-stutter and lack of support be on non-mGPU DX12/11 games?

No thanks...

Ok I just want to hold off a major upgrade until cpus make a good jump in performace which I hope in the next two years. If it is r9 390 or 390x good thats good enough for me to do 1440p until new things come out. The nice thing is the one 6 pin connector considering the fact that my r9 380 nees an 8 pin and a 6 I am wondering just how power efficient this new card is.
