Driving test tips UK

As long as you made adequate planning while your driving for whats ahead, then you should be fine. Consider what and where people will do be it cross a road or get access to a certain area. Know which road leads to where and plan to get to your lane with ample time. And most importantly, don't try to push yourself. It's fine if you slow down a bit to observe and get to know your surroundings.

When I did my driving test (ngl it wasn't very long ago because I didn't do it at the same time as most people), I found the theory more difficult than the practical. In one theory, I aced the hazard perception but failed by 1 mark the multiple choice, in another one, I aced the multiple choice (I had revised) but failed the hazard perception (I got zero marks in 6 clips because I knew the clips from the first time round so I clicked slightly before the hazard) then on the third one that I did, I got full marks on the multiple choice and 5 off full on the hazard. I was really worried about the show me, tell me but in the end it was fine.

 

On my actual test though, I sped 25 in a 20 zone past a primary school which I was like shit shit shit but that was only a minor. I also got a minor for not looking in my mirrors when moving out but I'm pretty sure that I did in fact look in them, I just didn't turn my head. I got a few more minors too but I was doing it in a completely unknown region of the city so all the roads were new to me (ie: I went in the wrong lane at a mini roundabout) and the traffic was insanely busy. For the Beatles fans, I drove down Penny Lane so at least that's something to boast about in the pub in the future but FYI, the junction at the top of Penny Lane is atrocious so I'm glad I didn't get any minors in that point.

One of the biggest pieces of advice I can give anyone when taking their drivers test:

 

Over-exaggerate your head movements. If they don't see you check your mirrors, you didn't. Even if you did.

 

Another trick many people find useful is to narrate their actions out loud for the instructor to hear:

"Checking my blindspot" "Checking right-side mirror" "Clear, pulling ahead", etc. It sounds awkward, but you'll ensure that the instructor never misses anything because they were jotting notes down in their clipboard.

I don't know how they test in the UK, but at least in Australia, this piece of advise is essential.

Same in merica. On my test there was a roundabout and right after it there was an intersection and a bridge. So she said take a left like your going to go on the bridge but don't I ended up taking a left out of the roundabout so instead of just saying go around she grabbed the wheel to try and make me turn and we hit a curb and sign.

With that in mind, here in Ontario, they would count that as an automatic fail - despite it being the instructors fault. Though that doesn't stop you from doing something like suing the instructor afterwards, but that's not something that most people would do.
