I would like to get the opinion of the LTT Community about the idea of an unofficial Linus Tech Tips App. Please leave a thumbs up or a comment if you want to support this idea. For any android developers willing to join or help me in the app. Please send me a message in the forum or by just mailing me by clicking my profile and then clicking the send message button. Thank You Everyone.

What kind off app? Like link the forums and the YouTube feed into 1 independent app? You should probably email linus on his bussiness email and ask permision before though.

There's already a youtube app and a tapatalk tap for the forum. And as stated, you can't really just go freelance making a software for a company without their permission

well the main problem has always been the price but if your just doing this then awesome, just tell Linus before you release anything :D

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

#2. It's best to keep your mouth shut; and appear to be stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt.

#3. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place.

I have already mailed Linus for permission. Through the staff section of this forum. I have to check if he replied.

Thank You for your support. I will try and get a few more opinions and then start working on it. There is already a windows 10 mobile and windows 10 app for the forums. I will try and bring that to android. :)

Ok. Well good luck, an app could be quite cool! If you want to email linus through his email rather than PM him on the forums, his email can be accesed on the about section of his youtube profile.

You can read @colonel_mortis's answer about anything official there. You are free to make unofficial app. Just it clear that its fan made and LMG has nothing real to do with it. For using their logos and banners you will still need permissions.

Provided that you make it clear both in the title of the app and in and descriptions that the app is unofficial, specific permission is not required, provided that you follow the rules described in https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/193630-complete-list-of-forum-addons-scripts-apps-etc/?do=findComment&comment=2624256.

However, I don't see the benefit of making an unofficial app - the only thing you can do is make the entire thing a webview, so it is exactly the same as using a web browser, except that you have to switch to a different app to do it. If it were official, there would be a couple more things that could be done that would require implementation on the back end, but even then it would still not be much better than using the browser version, but with a lot of work involved.
