so in my case with a 1440 screen and a 4k pic to calculate the side it would go:

1777*2560/3840= 1184.6666666666667?

yeah exactly.  Keep in mind that when I say "your res" I mean the resolution of the picture you will be setting as a background, but they should be one and the same.

but 1184 isn't correct since i used 1777 as sides?

Well what was the resolution on the picture you were cutting from?  It must have been 4K, since the odds of a mistake in the math just happening to perfectly balance out some other mixup is incredibly low
