Should I ditch the 980ti?

Holahoops
Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

It outperforms a stock 980 Ti by 30% (where did you even see 50%?) - OC your card and enjoy the same performance

Okay so I bought a 980ti about a month ago and now the 1080 is coming out and is out performing the 980ti by 42% in some cases. I have a 3440x1440p monitor so the 1080 would help. So basically what i'm saying is I messed up and bought a 980ti 1 month ago and now IDK if I should get rid of it for 1080, and i have this anxiety that I always get when making decisions on pc hardware. pls halp.

Thanks for any responses.

Doubt you can return it after a month. You can sell it yes but you'd lose a bit of money.

I have exactly the same issue, i bought a Gigabyte G1 Gaming 980ti about a month ago. I think that personally i am most likely to wait for the 1080ti, if it's like the 980 compared to 980ti then it'd be a much better choice to get that. That's just me personally though

nah, don't let other people control you, i don't know if there's any Benchmark that already out by now, but if its really 50%, i would recommend selling it

The benchmarks are out.

Okay so it was a rough estimate but in this video at 8:14 1080 gets 71fps and 980ti gets 50 so 50% was high it's 42%

Also I'm riding on a fine line because I have a 500W psu, so should I just get a new psu and oc?

The 1080 and 980 Ti can both OC on a GOOD 500W. What 500W?

Unless you can get all of the money you paid back then no, no, no, no, no, no and NEIN! Ask this question first: is the 980ti running games at your desired frame rate and graphics settings? if yes then no 1080, if no then look at what you want and does the 1080 deliver enough/more than your desires? If it's another yes to that question then go for it else, wait for a more powerful card :D

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

I'd hold out for now, it's not as if the 980ti can't run games pretty damn well already, if you find that you NEED to upgrade do it but like i said i'd personally wait and see what happens with the 1080ti

Corsair cx500, it umm is an interesting sample because it doesn't properly turn off and i guess it's the capacitors but it make clicking noises sometimes, so I don't want to push this psu.

The chances of you frying your PSU with an OC are 90%
