Now, AMD's stock prices are really cheap. Me, being a dumb 16 year old learnt in school that owning a company's stock basically means that you "own" some part of that company. If I bought let's say $100 worth of stocks, could I have them create a custom graphics card for me or something like that (not an entirely new chip, but maybe an r9 390 watercooled or even get some cards for free?) (hypothetical scenario) ?

I have a Fury Nitro and an FX 8320E. Screw my life?

Key word: Own enough stocks

If you own enough stocks you could have the CEO build a custom PC right in front of you or walk right into TSMC and grab a few dozen GPUs off their manufacturing line for all I know.

100 dollars of AMD stock isn't going to get you anything.  You need a hundred million dollars of their stock before your own individual opinion matters to them.

Erm... short answer?

No.

Long answer?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha *deep breath* AHHHHhahahahahaha

/s :)

But in reality, $100 worth of stock won't get you anything at all. You get a vote when any Shareholder votes happen (Things like approving mergers, approving new board members, running for board of directors, etc) - but your voting power is based on number of shares you own vs total number of shares, So in reality, your vote, by itself, is basically worthless.

Even if you owned $10,000 worth of AMD stock, they still wouldn't create a custom GPU for you. You'd likely have to own $1m USD or more of stock to be important enough for them to waste time and money engineering you something custom as a one-off product.

If you owned a decent amount of stock, you might be able to get some free stuff though - for review/marketing purposes, but $100 isn't going to be enough for that, unless you also already have a following on social media - and then there comes the question of conflict of interest (Any reviews you release would need to be viewed in a skeptical manner, since you own part of AMD,and on top of that, they're giving you free stuff).

No... No. You get no say unless you have a sizeable share. You get a vote in shareholder meetings, but that's based on how much you own. At $100, or even $10,000, or even $100,000, you're an ant. Hell, even a few million wouldn't be likely to sway them in any tangible way.

Give AMD a couple of Billions and I'm sure they will do anything as you please :D

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Alright, thank you all for your replies.
So even if I had let's say 10k or even more, I would still not be able to get a graphics card for free? Oh well :'( but yeah, thank you. I am reminding you that this was all hypothetical.

You won't have any say in designing one even if you give them $10M. They may be nice and give you a card or two. That would be the least efficient way to get a new card :P

I am not talking about designing a new chip, but for example a custom fury-x just for me (special colors or some different watercoolin and stuff like that).

You'd have to give them enough money or be a youtube personality. At that point it's better to just pay someone to mod it.

I think at that point, you might as well buy the darn card.
