can i install case fan in cpu fan header?

if i can
the cpu fan header changes fan speed depending on cpu temperature so how can i control it?
my mb has 2 cpu fan header . how can i control the second header without doing any thing to the other one?

There is nothing keeping you from installing a case fan in the CPU fan header. The fan headers cross compatible. The only thing is that you'll need a PWM fan in order to control the speed of it. You can tell if it's a PWM fan by looking at the connector; if it has 3 slots, it's not a PWM fan, and if it has 4 slots, it is a PWN fan.

mine is msi z97 gaming 5 
it has 2 cpu fan headers (2 are PWM)

you might be able to fiddle in the Bios and turn off the cpu temp/fan speed link and just use it normally

Two CPU fan headers are linked and controlled with same controller chip. You can't control them individually. On your mobo, you have all other case fans headers also software controllable. With MSI Command Centers tool (or BIOS).

Try SpeedFan. With my X99 MSI I can control both CPU_FAN header with different PWM speeds.
