Bent pins?

Hey guys I was trying to test out my components and saw that the motherboard had bent pins.  Regardless of this I went built it anyway.  The system posts and gets to Windows no bios/Windows no problem.  Should I even worry about it? Should I try to bend back the pins? The socket is 1151.

Thanks!

If everything works like it should then it should be fine :D (have you tried stressing the CPU? any freezing or BSOD may mean that the pins are important...also check whether you have the full 16 PCI-e lanes since if you don't, the pins could have been important again :P)

I'd sort them out cause it's easy- although if you're not very good you might screw it up, but if it works that's up to you.

It depends on your skills and hand stability. If you feel up to it, it ain't that hard. just take a small screwdriver. like, very very small. or anything flat about 0.5/1mm in width. and pull em back up.

If you dont know what you are doing, you shouldnt maybe try to bend them back. My friend once said that dont fix what isnt broken and it is often very much true. As long as there is no problems there is nothing to worry about

Winning an argument with a woman step by step

step one - talk to her

step two - fight with her for 2 hours even if you are really right

step three - admit that she is right for the sake of your safety

step four - realize that you have accomplished nothing and she still thinks you were wrong and now she thinks you are even more stupid

I bent two pins on my motherboard. Sounds mad dodgy but I got a sewing pin, used the large end of the pin and slowly and carefully bent the pins back. Dodgy, yes. Worth it because it looked nice! Yes! Everything worded fine before and after the treatment i gave it. Been working now since Christmas just fine.

What would I use to stress test the CPU and how would I test to see if I have the full PCI-e lanes? I haven't bought a new gpu yet and the only one I have is an old amd HD 4650

adia64 or intel burn test and yeah, your 4650 is sufficient to check whether it has the full 16 lanes (using GPU-z :D)

Okay I'll work on it now.  I'll run it for a couple of hours.  How would I know if the 16 lanes are all right?

[edit] would GPU-z crash if not otherwise?

Go into GPU-z and there should be something called the Bus interface and click the question mark next to it and if the bus interface matches jumps to PCI-e 2.0/3.0 16x (matching the numbers on the left side of the @) then it should be fine (also considering you have your GPU in the primary/first PCI-e 16x slot :D)

So i've run into a problem.

it won't detect any usbs that i plug into it except the keyboard and mice i plugged in.  I checked in the bios and it detects it there.  Any suggestions?  I need to put the drivers into it.  Even the lan drivers need to be installed xD

install drives first, my sabertooth USB 3 ports wouldn't work due to no drivers :P

Yea ? I'm a doof. I think I'll have to rip out the disc drive from an old computer.  Any ideas of another way without having to install a cd drive?

Guys, do you see that little 'Question Mark' right next to where it says it's running at x1 1.1?  Yeah, put your mouse over that and it'll explain the problem and solve it.

Basically, your PCI-E bus was in low power mode, so it runs at a slower speed, under the question mark there's a tiny program that'll load the GPU and kick it's bus into full speed.

Nobody asked that question thou...I nicked that screenshot off the web to show him what I was talking about (hence the edit... of P.S.)...

I've tried to insert an Ethernet cable and the lights light up but Windows says there's internet connected.  I've just taken a ssd with Windows installed and used that to test out these parts

So it's connected or...(if it doesn't show up as connected then you need the drivers...)

Your PCI-e slots are fine and how long have you been running it for? Any problems?

Also, are your RAM slots all working? That's also something else that could become faulty due to bent pins :/

I've been running aida64 now for 40 minutes now.  Max temp is 62C.  The RAM seems to be working fine. I only have two installed. So I'll try installing them on the other two slots.  MoBo is Asus z170-ar, i7 6700k, and corsair vengeance lpx  2x 8GB  sticks. They're only running at 2133 though not the 3000.  I read somewhere to enable xmp for RAM?
