6.5 is for the GTX 1070. Polaris 10 is rumored to be less than that.

I just hope AMD doesn't do what they did with their CPUs by just making mainstream products but with GPUs.

AMD did that in the CPU market because they could not keep up with intel on the high end.

AMD has no such problems in the GPU market, Nvidia and AMD always go head to head on performance. Neither of them is going to drop out of high end or mainstream. Both companies will continue to have a full range of products.

You can't just draw conclusions based on one or two products, you have to wait until you can see the entire new product range. E.g. Nvidia launched Maxwell with 750ti and that was the only maxwell product for months. That doesn't mean that they were only focusing on low end from then on, it was simply the first product launch in the kepler-->maxwell transition, and it happened to be low end.

Not to mention the low incentive for AMD to even invest heavily in high end GPUs, when most people will opt to buy Nvidia even in several cases in the past that AMD has had the better high end GPU.

Someone posted this in another forum that sounds interesting and could make sense...

Front end improvements give around ~18% perf/watt, don't expect all of that to go to performance.... I would say around 10% to performance and 8% to wattage reduction.

30/70 split from architecture and node respectively, to give a 2.5x perf/watt advantage over today's high end chips (r390x)

Now if we go by 2.0 perf per watt from Tonga, that will be even less....

They actually gave us all the numbers to figure out what the performance will be for a set wattage.

If they are at ~100 watts, they will get Tonga performance, if they are at ~120 watts they get 390 to 390x performance, if they are at ~150 watts 390x performance Fury X performance.

Btw, there should be a pinned topic on the VGA subforum to discuss Polaris, as right now there's only Pascal mythbusting topic...
